One device on my desk, and no datasheet for it
A connected oral-care device with no protocol documentation. I had the device in hand but no datasheet, so I read its Bluetooth Low Energy traffic and rebuilt the protocol. The app team could then build without a device in their hands.
The problem
The app had to talk to a device nobody had documented. Without a protocol, every feature waited on someone holding the hardware.
What I built
- Captured the device’s Bluetooth Low Energy traffic and rebuilt its framing, handshakes and error cases.
- Wrote a typed React Native SDK with 120 unit tests.
- Built a fake transport that replays captured sessions, so the rest of the team could develop and test without a device in their hands.
- Owned the platform end to end after that: roadmap, API architecture, review, releases and the self-hosted infrastructure.
What changed
The app team builds and tests against real device behaviour without a device on their desk.
